AUTISM FC CELEBRATE FURTHER SUCCESS

Sunday 22nd March marked a return to competitive action for the Saints in the Community Autism FC squad!

Following February’s recent success in the North Region Championship, the Saints squad didn’t have to wait long before returning to competitive action, with excitement high heading into the national premiership finals held at the Galaxy Sports Little Kerse football facility in Polmont.

A squad of 14 players represented Saints in the Community on the day, split once again into the Saints Blues and Saints Whites. Both teams were eager to build on their previous performances and test themselves against teams from across the country!

The Saints Whites got their day off to a positive start with a hard-fought win against their Saints Blues teammates in a closely contested opening fixture. From there, they continued to build momentum with a series of strong performances, securing a draw against West Region champions, Rangers, before going on to record consecutive wins against Edinburgh South, Drumchapel, and Haddington. Throughout the day, the Whites showed great determination, teamwork, and consistency, finishing their fixtures strongly and enjoying a very successful, unbeaten, set of results.

The Saints Blues also enjoyed a positive day, beginning with a narrow defeat in their opening match against their Saints counterparts before responding well with a win in their next fixture against Haddington. They then went on to lose narrowly to Rangers, followed by a hard fought draw against Edinburgh South. The Blues rounded off their day with a well-earned win in their final game, demonstrating great resilience and a positive attitude throughout.

In what proved to be a fantastic day for the entire Saints in the Community Autism FC squad, the Saints Whites went on to be crowned joint Premiership champions alongside Rangers - a first for the competition, with two clubs sharing the title. This achievement builds on their second-place finish at the Championship Finals and reflects the great effort from all players involved.

Off the pitch, both squads once again represented the Trust with pride, showing excellent sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect throughout the day.

Following their recent trophy success, we were delighted to welcome some of our Autism FC players onto the pitch at half-time during our recent Community Day fixture against Queen’s Park, where they had the opportunity to celebrate their achievements and lift their trophies in front of the St Johnstone supporters, a special moment for everyone involved.

Congratulations to all players on another brilliant day!
