MENTAL HEALTH & WELLBEING LEAGUE RETURNS

Tuesday, August 27th saw our Mental Health & Wellbeing squad take part in their most recent fixtures in the Scottish Mental Health & Wellbeing League.

The depleted Saints in the Community squad of 7 players travelled to Nethercraigs, Glasgow, for the third round of fixtures in the Scottish Mental Health & Wellbeing League, with an eye on leapfrogging the NL Kickstart Reds, who sat in 3rd place, just 1 point above the Saints team prior to the 3rd round of fixtures. The Saints in the Community teams compete in the Championship Division alongside 7 other Mental Health & Wellbeing teams in 7-a-side, 15-minute fixtures.

The first fixture of the day for the Community squad saw them facing off against their 3rd place rivals, the NL Kickstart Reds. The game proved to be a close affair with both teams battling well throughout, but unfortunately for the Saints in the Community squad, they started the day with a narrow 1-0 loss.

Looking to bounce back from their early defeat, the Community squad geared up for a Tayside derby against Dundee United. The Saints in the Community squad played well throughout the match, ultimately falling short once again, picking up another narrow 1-0 loss. The 3rd fixture of the day saw the Community squad facing up against league leaders, Edinburgh Street Soccer, who had only been defeated once all season. It proved to be a difficult fixture for the depleted Saints squad, who conducted themselves well throughout but went on to lose the game 4-0.

Next up for the Community squad was a second fixture against the NL Kickstart Reds and a chance for the Saints in the Community squad to atone for the earlier defeat. The game proved to be a close affair once again with both teams eager to secure that 3rd place spot. However, the game ultimately ended the same way for the Community squad, losing the game 1-0.

The final round of fixtures for the Saints in the Community team saw them face off against Clyde United, as both teams looked to end the 3rd round of fixtures on a positive note. It was another battling performance from the Community squad, who went into the game determined to get 3 points on the board before the end of the day. The squad’s hard work finally paid off, picking up a 1-0 victory against Clyde with Barry T scoring the solitary goal in another close game.

This final victory of the day was accompanied by another 3 points for the Saints in the Community squad, who were awarded a 3-0 win due to their opponents' absence. The squad can be proud of their efforts throughout the day, with everyone working incredibly hard despite the depleted numbers. We look forward to seeing how the team performs in their next round of fixtures!
