REMINISCENCE ACTIVITY BOOK IS A HIT

The Memory Lane activity book, designed by Saints in the Community, has been distributed across the county and beyond!

Over the last couple of years, the difficulties with getting out regularly have led to an increase in loneliness and feelings of social isolation, particularly within the elderly population. To combat this, Saints in the Community decided to put together a football-themed Memory Lane activity book for older adults - supported by The National Lottery Community Fund Scotland and the COVID-19 Supporting Communities Fund. Open up the booklet and, with the aid of visual and written cues, enjoy a moment to yourself to reflect on the good times with your favourite teams and players!

The activities within have been designed to encourage reminiscence of the days of Scottish football across the 50's, 60's, 70's, and 80's. With this, we hope to provide a resource which is easily accessible for those experiencing social isolation or increased anxiety and provides a welcome distraction with a trip down memory lane.

Crafted with the tireless support of our dedicated and passionate Football Memories volunteer team, each activity has been carefully thought out and includes:

  • Guess Who pictures
  • Crosswords
  • Cryptograms
  • Quote finders
  • Guess the Year
  • ... and much more!

While the booklet was originally created to ease difficulties associated with the pandemic lockdowns, it has been such a hit with recipients that the Trust plan to continue to develop, print, and share this resource for years to come!

Initially 30 copies were printed back when the project first launched in 2020, by local Perth company T'Go Creative, but quickly became a resounding success and led to an additional 500 copies being printed throughout 2021. Memory Lane has now been distributed across the county, from Pitlochry to Kinross, Blairgowrie to Crieff, and everywhere in between - our booklet has been shared with people in care homes and sheltered housing, as well as those living at home.

After such impressive feedback, we didn't want to keep this resource to ourselves and have shared this with our friends at other Community Trusts in Scotland. We have been in contact with Arbroath FC Community Trust and Falkirk FC Heritage Trust and were delighted to support conversations between them and our local printer to secure copies for both including their own bespoke front covers. This has allowed 300 copies to be shared in communities around Arbroath and 50 copies to be shared in the Falkirk communities – an overall total of 850 beneficiaries!

We still currently have a small number of copies printed and available for residents throughout Perth & Kinross. If you would like to nominate a relative, friend or neighbour to receive a copy, please contact us on 01738 459095 or email us at admin@saintsinthecommunity.co.uk.

We are happy to share this resource with any other Trusts or interested organisations keen to see this used within their own communities. Please do not hesitate to contact us and we will gladly discuss arranging this with you.
