STEPPING UP FOR CHARITY

Supporters of The St Johnstone Community Trust are invited to take part in the 2021 Virtual Kiltwalk (23 to 25th April) to raise vital funds for the charity!

The St Johnstone Community Trust, better known as Saints in the Community, is a stand-alone charity based in Perth & Kinross. We use the appeal of football and McDiarmid Park to engage the local community in a variety of programmes and this includes: recreational and developmental football for children, education programmes in schools, employment projects to support people into work, weight-loss initiatives for adults, walking football and also reminiscence sessions for people living with dementia. We also have established football training programmes for adults with learning disabilities and for adults struggling with their mental health - a project which has proved to be life-saving for some. As a result, our projects engage with children as young as 3 years old right through to adults in their 90's. To deliver our community programmes we generate our own income through our football activities, benefit from funding and we depend on the goodwill and fundraising of others.

The pandemic has had a significant impact on the third-sector. At Saints in the Community, we pressed the pause button on a number of income-generating activities, namely our football training for children, our walking football sessions, and our circuit classes. We exist to meet local need and we quickly adapted our services to support the pre-existing and changed needs of our participants and introduced new services to support the local community. Funding from Trusts and Foundations is incredibly competitive now, particularly in response to and recovery from COVID-19.

In 2020, Saints in the Community won the prestigious Scottish FA 'Best Professional Club in the Community' Grassroots Award. This national award recognises the work which we do in the community, however, it is important we now maintain our current level or service, develop our existing programmes and work to introduce new projects. Your fundraising can help us to do this.

The Virtual Kiltwalk offers a unique opportunity to support the Community Trust and this year, the Hunter Foundation has undertaken to top up every pound raised by an additional 50% (up to £5,000).
